Hospitalization Extended by Divine Delay
An amazing thing happened today and truly it is the hand of God at work in our lives! When He opens a door, no man can close it. When man says no, God says yes. He is the one who goes before us to prepare the way and fights for us.
You know how apprehensive we felt about the move to the nursing home right now because the stroke therapy would not be as aggressive there as it is at the hospital. I felt it would slow the progress Steve is making. And the Stroke Rehab staff felt the same way, but their hands were tied because Medicare set the guidelines which states that if there is a more cost effective place for Steve to get therapy, then that’s all Medicare would pay. And the nursing home is a lot less expensive than the hospital.
BUT……the Bellin Inpatient Rehab staff had a meeting today. It included all the therapists, supervisors, social worker and director who have worked with Steve (about 8 people), and they all agreed that he would benefit greatly if he could stay just one more week. So the administrator made an executive decision and approved their request to let Steve stay another week. They said the hospital would lose money by letting him stay, but the Rehab staff prevailed. They said this has NEVER happened before!
In the meantime, our case coordinator was concerned that the nursing home might not hold the room reserved for Steve for another week, so they were contacted to see if they would. If it meant that we would lose the room and that there would be no vacancy when we needed it a week from now, then they would discharge Steve any way. After several hours of waiting, the nursing home called back to say that the person that was supposed to vacate the room reserved for Steve decided to stay longer. So the room wasn’t available for him right now anyway. (But I know that it will be when we need it.)
So by divine intervention Steve is staying at Bellin for another week to get some more outstanding therapy, and his move to the nursing home has been postponed.
God is so good!! Please join me in praising Him for His awesome favor!!! If God is for us, who can be against us? In Him alone do we put our trust.
“For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.” Psalms 5:12
“…it was not their own strength that gave them victory. It was by Your mighty power that they succeeded; it was because You favored them and smiled on them. You are my King and my God. You command victories for your people.” Psalms 44:3-4
