A Ray of Renewed Hope

I have some very exciting news! On Saturday afternoon I was doing some therapy with Steve because he doesn’t have any on the weekends. I worked his left arm, moving it back and forth in a sawing motion. He tried to flex the muscles each time I did that, and then it happened…he started to grasp my hand with his fingers!! I felt him close his fingers around my hand and he did this several times. This is so significant because it’s the first voluntary hand movement he’s had, so I know it’s the start of the full stroke recovery for his hand and arm.

Just when I was feeling down, God gave us this ray of renewed hope, and showed me that He’s still in control and working in our lives.

Physical therapy is going well and they are continuing to work with him on his walking and his balance while standing. He’s learning how to lift his knee up in order to walk. He’s still lifting his foot by lifting his hip, and this throws his balance off. But little by little he’s coming along.

On Wed. he has a dr. appt. for a recheck of that left ankle, and I get to take him to that appt.  It will be nice to get away from the “home” for awhile and feel normal again. If all goes well this week, he’ll be going to church on Sunday and he’s very excited about that. We just need help getting the wheelchair in and out of the trunk of my car.  I’m sure the guys at church will help us with that.

Thank you for your continued prayers, and your emails and cards which encourage us so much. I wish I could respond to all of them and let you know how much we are blessed and feel loved by them.

Until next time…
Love, Kathy
