Sleep Apnea Helped with CPAP

Finally! Steve was fitted with the CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine and mask to relieve the sleep apnea. At first the air pressure was so strong that he couldn’t wear the mask more than 20 minutes. It’s necessary for the pressure to be strong enough to force the oxygen into his blood stream, but it was so strong that it was causing spontaneous coughing. He was ready to give up, but I called the doctor and he gave orders to lower the pressure by 25%, and to allow the pressure to build up slowly over 25 minutes. This is working so much better, and Steve falls asleep before the machine reaches the higher pressure, and he doesn’t even notice it.

This is the second night with the CPAP and it’s helping a lot. He doesn’t awaken during the night like he did before, but he does wake up around 4:00 AM and takes the mask off. It will take a few nights to get used to it and I’m sure that by the end of the week he’ll be doing much better.

Thanks so much for your prayers concerning this. There were so many delays in getting everything to work properly, so now we’re praying it will all go well and that Steve will be feeling more energetic soon.

My love and thanks,

Kathy
