Cerebral Palsy Center Helps Stroke Survivor
About 6 months after Steve’s stroke, he started aquatic therapy at the CP Center working one-on-one with a physical therapist. When the insurance ran out, they offered us a pool pass for 10 one-hour sessions for only $20 if I worked with him instead of the therapist. That worked out great because I knew what to do. And there was no charge for me. At the end of the 10 sessions, the cost was $5.75 per session, or we could buy an annual pass for $325 which offered unlimited sessions within a year’s time. Obviously, we opted for the annual pass. They also offered very affordable group classes, but I felt Stev
e did better when I worked with him alone.
We also have access to all the equipment and there are lifeguards on duty. After he gets a good workout, we go to the hot tub for about 10 minutes. It’s a nice reward for all the effort he puts forth, and it’s so relaxing for both of us. Then we hit the co-ed shower room to change. All of this is available at the CP Aquatic Center.
The reason I am telling you this is to let you know that the monies raised through the Cerebral Palsy Telethon subsidizes my husband’s stroke rehabilitation to keep it affordable for us and others. Please support your local CP Center. You’ll never know when you or a loved one will need its services.
