Lighted Cane Guides the Way
A lighted cane has given Steve peace of mind when he has to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. Sometimes he’d stay up late and have to walk upstairs unassisted. When he got to the bedroom, he didn’t want turn on the bedroom light and wake me up, so he struggled by himself in the
dark. Having a walking cane with a light gave him confidence and added safety.
Even though we have a night light in the bedroom, it doesn’t provide enough light where he needs it…at his feet.
One time his quad cane hooked on an article of clothing in the dark and he dragged it along with him. This nighttime walking presented quite a dilemma because tripping and falling are always a concern. When I saw a baseball cap light at the store, I had an “aha” moment. I attached the LED light to the cane with some long rubber bands, and it works great. Now all Steve has to do is flip the switch at the base of the quad cane and it lights his path. What an easy and inexpensive solution it was!
This solution worked well for the quad cane, but the path lighter safety cane works equally as well.
