About Us

Steve and Kathy Boncher were high school sweethearts and married in 1967 at the tender ages of 19 and 17.  They grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin and lived there while they raised four beautiful daughters. Now their family has grown to 16 with the addition of four sons-in-law and six grandchildren.

Steve always enjoyed working with his hands and being outdoors. He was a good carpenter and started a home building business when he was only 22 years old.  He retired 35 years later, only a few years before his stroke in February 2008.

Kathy was active in their business in addition to teaching Bible studies, speaking at women’s seminars and conferences, writing articles, and co-authoring a book. Currently, she is a Beauty Consultant which allows her flexible hours to work from home while caring for her husband.

They spent many hours together fishing, which is one of their favorite past-times. Steve and Kathy have many funny, exciting stories to tell of their angling adventures, and they hope to resume those activities again one day.

ankle. my left harm returm 50% . my fingers can curl but not
extend. Now i have to struggle with spasticity. I am considering
botox. i happened to see the 2 devices that may help. they are
approved by FDA; medicare would pay for them. If you are
interested, here is the web site
    http://www.bioness.com/

the site helps locate the nearest rehab centers that use those
devices in therapy program and the user can decide to buy for home exercise as well.
    rgds,
    binh
( i think they offer free
evaluation. those are expensive(6200 each)but they offer rental
option for 1 month for $500, and the rent will be counted
toward payment once customer decide to buy.

    Dear Mr. and Mrs. Boncher,
I am writing from Italy where my mother has suffered a stroke about three months ago.
The Italian medical system is out of date, obscene and dangerous.
I would like to know how I may acquire the tool for the hand device as shown on YouTube?
    God Bless,
    Vincent

    Kathy Boncher Says:

    Hi Vincent,
Thanks for visiting our blog, and I’m sorry to hear about your mother’s stroke.

The hand device is called a Ness H200 Hand Rehabilitation System.
It must be fitted by a physical or occupational therapist. The above link will give you more information and will help you in acquiring it. I wish you and your mother God’s blessings and strength as you travel on your stroke recovery journey.

I am currently researching groups who may be interested in learning more about our program. I thought you may be interested. We currently run programs out of Canada however are looking for expansion opportunities. We also have people coming form other parts of the world to Canada to attend this program.

Conductive Education is a unique community‐based rehabilitation program for people of all ages with disabilities such as cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, or who have had a stroke or brain injury. Participants are taught skills and techniques to help them overcome the challenges of their disability. They learn how to apply these strategies to their everyday life becoming more independent.

Hi My name is jackie my husband suffered a major stroke on March 6th 2011. I live in Kent in England. I am finding it very hard to come to terms with it. He has now come home from hospital and I find every day harder. How do you get through this awful nightmare?

    Kathy Boncher Says:

Hi Jackie, My heart goes out to you because I know it’s hard to see your loved one being so helpless, and you thrown into a caregiving role. My help comes from God who gives me the grace and strength to meet each day’s challenges. I also belong to our local stroke support group where other caregivers can get together. It’s good to share one another’s burdens. It would also be good for you to join a stroke caregiver’s support group. If there’s not one in your area, you may join an online support group. I hope that helps.

    Kathy Says:

    Dear Jonathan,

Thank you so much for writing. Keep working hard to recover and reach for smaller goals, which in turn will accomplish larger goals. For example: Set a goal that in two months you want to be able to grasp a pencil. Everyday work toward that goal. Put the pencil in your hand and close your fingers around it. Visualize yourself opening and closing your hand and holding the pencil. When you reach that goal, set another goal for yourself like writing with the pencil. If you don’t reach your goal within the first time period you set, then just set another date.

There are several videos on our blog of Steve getting physical, occupational and speech therapy. I hope you’ll watch them to get some ideas. Mostly, don’t give up! Stroke recovery takes time and lots of hard work and perseverance. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!
