Dear Jonathan,

Thank you so much for writing. Keep working hard to recover and reach for smaller goals, which in turn will accomplish larger goals. For example: Set a goal that in two months you want to be able to grasp a pencil. Everyday work toward that goal. Put the pencil in your hand and close your fingers around it. Visualize yourself opening and closing your hand and holding the pencil. When you reach that goal, set another goal for yourself like writing with the pencil. If you don't reach your goal within the first time period you set, then just set another date.

There are several videos on our blog of Steve getting physical, occupational and speech therapy. I hope you'll watch them to get some ideas. Mostly, don't give up! Stroke recovery takes time and lots of hard work and perseverance. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Hello-

I had a left hemisphere CVA five months ago that has left me unable to eat, drink, or speak intelligibly. I also have a blog at http://jerome-torsney.blogspot.com/ that some find inspirational. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your husband.
